Most people get burned by solar not because of the technology — but because of who they chose. These are the questions I use to vet every installer in our network. Use them on anyone.
Is the company profitable and debt-free?
Most solar companies aren't. When funding runs out, they're gone — and so is your warranty.
Who services your system in year 7?
If the sales company, installer, and service company are three different businesses, your system will get orphaned.
Local accountability + national platform backing?
Pure local: limited. Pure national: you're a number. The hybrid model wins.
What does the sales process tell you?
Pressure to sign today? Walk. Can't answer technical questions about your roof or rate structure? Walk.
Ask about the battery specifically.
Brand, warranty, service protocol. If the rep says 'we install the best battery' without specifics, they're not the expert you need.
Read BBB complaints and Reddit — not just Google.
